Authorities say scammers are targeting bank customers in Pennsylvania with fake security texts that end in parking lot cash handovers.
Springfield Township police are warning residents in Flourtown and Cheltenham about the scheme, which targets TD Bank customers, reports Glenside Local.
The text messages claim to come from TD Security and say an account has been compromised, then push recipients to click a link.
Police say the link gives scammers access to the device and account details, after which fraudsters move money into checking and make it look like bank staff are handling an arrest.
Victims are then told to withdraw cash and either meet a supposed TD security worker nearby or drop the money into a car in a parking lot that drives off.
Says the department,
“TD Bank will never provide you a link to press if there is a problem with your account. You may receive a text or call, but call the main number and ask for security.”
Police say TD Bank is aware of the scam and is helping customers process fraud claims and restore their accounts.
