Broccoli Sprout Salmonella Outbreak Reaches 32 Cases Across 6 States, Triggering Recall

A broccoli sprout salmonella outbreak has sickened dozens of people across six states, prompting a recall and a halt to production.

As of September 24th of 2026, 32 people have been infected with Salmonella Bovismorbificans linked to sprouts grown by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC of Moyie Springs, Idaho, says the FDA.

The cases span Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Illnesses started between July 7th and September 3rd of 2026.

Three people have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.

Of the 27 people interviewed, 26 said they ate sprouts or microgreens and 22 specifically reported eating broccoli sprouts.

On September 10th of 2026, the company recalled 215 cases of 4-ounce bags after officials tied the product to the outbreak.

Evergreen Fresh Sprouts stopped production and distribution on September 4th of 2026 and is running a root cause investigation.

The sprouts were sold to grocery stores, restaurants and foodservice customers in Idaho, Montana and Washington and may have reached other states.

Officials are investigating this outbreak separately from an alfalfa sprout outbreak also under review.

Says the CDC,

“Epidemiologic, laboratory, and traceback data show that broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC are contaminated with Salmonella Bovismorbificans and are making people sick.”
