Scammers Drain $20,000 From Texas Woman’s Wells Fargo Account: Report

Scammers posing as Wells Fargo and FBI officials have drained $20,000 from a 75-year-old Texas woman through a phone scheme.

Police say callers convinced the victim to send the money to fix supposed problems with her bank account, reports Coconut Creek Talk.

She obtained a $20,000 cashier’s check and deposited it into a Wells Fargo account at a Kerrville, Texas branch.

An investigation led to the arrest of 23-year-old Ariana Theresa Johnson of Coconut Creek, Florida. She faces organized fraud against a person 65 or older, grand theft from a person 65 or older and money laundering charges.

Kerr County Sheriff’s investigators traced the receiving account to Johnson and another person who shared a Coconut Creek address and forwarded the case to Coconut Creek Police.

Johnson later confirmed she shared the Wells Fargo account with her mother and that the $20,000 entered the account on May 15th.

Bank records show the funds left through multiple electronic and in-person withdrawals in the days that followed.

Police arrested Johnson at her workplace on September 5th.

She allegedly admitted taking part in the scheme and claimed she acted at the request of a person known as Spizz.

Johnson did not identify that person and was booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
