The XRP Ledger Foundation has added Flare Networks to its recommended validator list, recognizing the project’s role in the network’s infrastructure.

In a recent post on X, the Foundation said Flare aligns with the XRP Ledger’s core values and actively participates in its governance. It also acknowledged the project’s contributions to the wider ecosystem.

What the Validator Changes Mean for the XRP Ledger

The Foundation also removed Anodos Finance after the project requested its removal ahead of a planned validator shutdown by the end of October. It thanked the team for its contributions and cooperation with the XRP community.

Following these changes, the Foundation’s recommended list and Ripple’s corresponding list contain 35 matching validator keys. Both lists also include a validator manifest linked to a domain associated with Flare.

These recommended lists help server operators decide which validators to trust when configuring their Unique Node Lists (UNLs). A UNL identifies the validators a server relies on to reach agreement on new ledgers.

Beyond reaching consensus, validators also support network governance by voting on protocol amendments that change how the XRP Ledger operates. An amendment requires more than 80% support from trusted validators over two consecutive weeks to activate.

Flare’s Role in the XRP Ledger

Flare thanked the XRP Ledger Foundation and those who reviewed its application in a public response. The addition comes as the project develops services that connect XRP holders with decentralized finance applications.

These services include FXRP, which uses the FAssets system to bring XRP onto Flare, and Flare Smart Accounts. The latter allows users to access applications on Flare through XRPL wallets without transferring custody of their assets to a third party.

However, joining the recommended list does not automatically change every XRP Ledger server’s configuration. Server operators can still maintain custom Unique Node Lists (UNLs) rather than follow the Foundation’s or Ripple’s recommendations.

Validators also receive no XRP rewards directly from the protocol for participating in consensus. Instead, their role involves helping maintain network reliability and supporting decisions on protocol changes, without direct financial incentives from the ledger itself.
