Arizona Attorney General Says $171,332 Recovered for Victims of Crypto ATM Scams

Arizona officials have helped 35 cryptocurrency ATM scam victims recover a combined $171,332 after a state law began requiring certain operators to reimburse people targeted by fraud.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes says the refunds were issued to victims who reported fraudulent transactions and met the requirements established under House Bill 2387.

The law took effect Sept. 26th, 2025, and requires crypto kiosk operators to refund eligible new customers who were tricked into making fraudulent transactions, including associated fees.

Victims must act quickly to qualify. They are required to notify both the crypto ATM operator and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office or another law enforcement agency within 30 days of the transaction. They must also provide the operator with an official report confirming that they were fraudulently induced to make the payment.

The law provides additional protections for people who have only recently started using a particular crypto ATM operator. A “new customer” is defined as someone who has used an operator for fewer than 10 days.

Those customers are also subject to a daily transaction limit of $2,000, while established customers can transact up to $10,500 per day.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes encourages residents who believe they have been targeted by a crypto ATM scam to report it immediately.

“My office is happy to help any victim of crypto ATM fraud receive a refund they are entitled to under Arizona law.”
