Federal prosecutors have secured a conviction against a Texas mental health clinic owner who orchestrated a multimillion-dollar scheme targeting a military health benefits program.

Kevin D. Curry, 64, of Frisco, Texas, was found guilty by a federal jury in Fort Worth of three counts of health care fraud, three counts of offering and paying illegal kickbacks, and three counts of money laundering, says the U.S. Department of Justice.

Curry owned clinics in Texas and Florida where he paid more than $5.5 million in kickbacks to recruit patients for unneeded or undelivered transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy.

Curry misused physicians’ credentials without permission, directed staff to create false records, and billed TRICARE more than $26 million while collecting roughly $17 million in payments.

“Kevin Curry shamelessly preyed on the trust of servicemembers, veterans, and their families, siphoning millions from TRICARE through lies and coercion,” says U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould of the Northern District of Texas.

Proceeds funded personal purchases including hotel stays, a casino-themed party, and a gold-plated Tesla Cybertruck valued at more than $100,000.

Curry faces up to 10 years in prison on each count at sentencing.

Agents from the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, FBI, Texas Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, and Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation.
