A Maryland bank teller supervisor has been permanently barred from the banking industry after stealing about $246,000 from cash machines at her branch.
Renee Nicole Brown, who worked as a teller supervisor at Sandy Spring Bank in Silver Spring, Maryland, until her termination in August of 2024, misappropriated approximately $246,000 from teller cash dispenser machines from June of 2023 through July of 2024, the Federal Reserve Board says.
On May 4th of 2026, after a guilty plea, Brown was convicted of a theft scheme under Maryland law.
She received a sentence of probation and must make partial restitution to the bank.
The Fed’s consent order of prohibition, effective September 16th of 2026, cites violations of law, unsafe or unsound banking practices, breaches of fiduciary duty, and personal dishonesty or willful disregard for the bank’s safety and soundness.

Without prior written approval from the Fed and, where required, another federal banking regulator, she is barred from taking part in the affairs of any insured depository institution or related company.
Sandy Spring Bank later merged with Atlantic Union Bank of Richmond, Virginia.
