Louisiana Family Accused of Burning 13 Homes in $1,000,000 Insurance Fraud Scheme

A Louisiana family and their associates have been indicted in an alleged arson-linked insurance fraud scheme that prosecutors say pulled in more than $1,000,000.

U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller just announced federal charges against seven defendants.

Prosecutors say Lashaundalyn Whitlock Brown, 41, of West Monroe, along with family members and associates, faces conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and use of fire to commit a federal felony.

The indictment alleges that between 2019 and 2026 the defendants rented homes in the Monroe and West Monroe areas, obtained homeowners insurance and then set about 13 residential fires.

Also charged are LaQuadra Whitlock, 26, of West Monroe; Latricia Whitlock, 20, of Monroe; Romenique Whitlock, 37, of Monroe; Jonika James, 25, of Monroe; Iesha Alexander, 26, of Monroe; and Travericka Williams, 27, of Dallas.

Authorities say the group submitted false insurance claims for made-up personal property losses and hotel stays, and filed fraudulent disaster-relief claims with a national humanitarian organization for cash under false pretenses.

Officials say the scheme generated more than $1,000,000 in proceeds over about seven years.

Says U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller,

“The audacity, the recklessness, and the greed of these defendants to allegedly turn fire setting into a for-profit operation is staggering.

The conspirators charged here fed their greed by putting innocent lives at risk, including those of first responders, and destroyed the hard earned property of others while contributing to higher insurance costs for us all.”

Authorities arrested the defendants on September 23rd of 2026. The FBI, the Louisiana State Fire Marshal, the Monroe Fire Department and the Louisiana State Police worked the case.
