Two Florida caregivers face felony charges after more than $361,000 was allegedly taken from an elderly assisted living resident and her late husband.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says Reinier Reinoso, 42, and Suyeng Daniels-Lopez, 45, used a deceased resident’s credit card and drained the couple’s bank accounts to cover the charges.
Detectives opened the case after A&Z Jewelers owner Imran Din flagged the pair for spending more than $40,000 and returning for another purchase without ID.
The card belonged to a Sarasota man who died in March.
He and his wife lived in assisted living, where Daniels-Lopez was their assigned caregiver from December of 2025 until Lopez’s June termination.
Between June 2nd and August 25th, the card was used in more than 550 transactions totaling $240,272.85.
Bank records showed 21 payments from the victims’ accounts totaling $361,938.23 covering that activity.
Says Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman,
“Our elderly residents deserve to feel safe, especially when placing their trust in those responsible for their care. Taking advantage of that trust for personal financial gain is unacceptable. We are grateful to Mr. Din whose attention and willingness to speak up helped bring this case to light.”
Each defendant is charged with exploitation of an elderly person, grand theft from a person 65 or older, and criminal use of personally identifiable information.
