Whales Rush to Buy Chainlink After Standard Chartered’s 2030 Price Forecast

Whales Rush to Buy Chainlink After Standard Chartered’s 2030 Price Forecast

Chainlink (LINK) daily whale transactions hit a 5-month high this week after Standard Chartered set a $200 price target.

The forecast also triggered a modest rally in the LINK price. Yet data shows that, for now, conviction runs thin.

Chainlink Whale Transactions Spike Around the Forecast

Blockchain analytics firm Santiment logged 246 transactions above $100,000 in 24 hours, the highest daily count in five months.

Wallets holding 100,000 to 10 million LINK now control 466.31 million coins. The cohort accounts for 46.57% of the circulating supply. Santiment says the cohort’s balance has grown alongside the transaction count.

“Chainlink has been expanding across CCIP, tokenized assets, stablecoins, institutional data, and new cross-chain lanes, while official metrics still frame the network as core oracle infrastructure for on-chain finance,” the firm said.

The surge in activity came after Standard Chartered initiated coverage of LINK on Monday, forecasting it to reach a $200 by 2030. The bank projects LINK to reach $13 by the end of 2026, $82 by 2028, and $133 by 2029.

It said Chainlink stands to benefit directly from the accelerating adoption of tokenization and decentralized finance (DeFi). Recent integrations reinforce that thesis.

Institutional and Price Data Undercut the Rally

The demand picture looks weaker. Spot LINK exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attracted just $150,307 last week and posted zero inflows in two of the prior three weeks.

According to SoSoValue data, cumulative net inflows stand at $128.29 million, compared with $114.87 million in net assets. The wrappers built for institutional money have stayed largely idle.

Price context adds another caveat. Despite the 6.8% surge since Monday, LINK remains down more than 28% year-to-date, leaving the token far below where it started in 2026.

On-chain flows are not uniformly bullish either. CryptoQuant data showed that exchange reserves fell from 142.8 million in late June to roughly 122.3 million LINK in early August.

However, reserves have since climbed back to 123.7 million, a pattern that can signal holders moving to sell into strength.

The gap defines the current setup. Whale wallets and one major bank are leaning bullish, while ETF flows, year-to-date price action, and rising exchange reserves suggest that conviction has yet to spread.
