Traditional markets are becoming a major business for crypto exchanges. Trading in perpetual contracts linked to stocks, commodities and other real-world assets reached $347 billion in May 2026, according to CoinGecko. During the first five months of the year, these contracts generated more than eight times the volume of tokenized assets traded on spot markets.

Exchanges increasingly want to become places where users can trade across markets without leaving their crypto accounts. KuCoin’s latest move is an expansion of KuCoin TradFi, which now lists more than 170 perpetual contracts across eight categories.

We reviewed the product specifications, costs and account rules to see where that proposition works for traders and where the limitations begin.

What Can You Actually Trade on KuCoin TradFi?

Range is KuCoin TradFi’s strongest starting point. Its contracts reference several major markets:

MarketExamples
U.S. equitiesNVIDIA, Tesla, Micron, SanDisk
Asian equitiesSamsung, SK Hynix, Hyundai
ETFs and indicesSemiconductor-linked ETFs, market indices
CommoditiesSilver, copper, crude oil, natural gas

This matters if your trading ideas follow events rather than asset classes. Someone tracking AI spending could move from a semiconductor stock to a related ETF. A trader watching geopolitical developments could consider oil or metals without opening another brokerage account.

There is an important distinction. These are perpetual derivatives. Buying an NVIDIA-linked contract gives exposure to price movements without ownership, dividends or voting rights. If your goal is long-term stock investing, a conventional broker offers a different product.

Does 24/7 Trading Deliver a Real Advantage?

Imagine major news about Tesla arriving on Saturday. Traditional U.S. stock exchanges are closed, but an eligible KuCoin user can open or close a Tesla-linked perpetual position immediately. Traders can also take short positions, potentially useful when markets fall.

For someone accustomed to crypto futures, the workflow is familiar. There is no contract expiry, positions are USDT-settled, and traders can use leverage. That convenience comes with ongoing funding payments or receipts and the possibility of liquidation.

The difficult part is pricing when the actual stock market is closed. KuCoin’s technical rules acknowledge reduced liquidity and use special index and mark-price calculations overnight and on weekends. A contract can still trade when fresh prices for the underlying share are unavailable.

This is an industry-wide issue. TokenInsight found roughly $32 billion in daily TradFi-perpetual volume on normal weekdays across 19 exchanges, falling to about $3 billion on a Saturday in September.

What traders should know:

  • The advantage: React to market-moving news outside traditional exchange hours, including weekends.
  • The limitation: Fewer counterparties can mean wider spreads and less attractive execution.
  • The practical approach: Check order-book liquidity and consider limit orders rather than assuming weekend prices will track the next stock-market open.

Are Trading and Account Management Straightforward?

KuCoin uses its established futures model, so existing derivatives traders should recognize the order controls and margin concepts. New users face a steeper learning curve: a stock that moves 3% can produce a much larger percentage loss on a leveraged position.

Trading costs deserve attention:

  • Maker fees: KuCoin’s standard VIP0 futures schedule lists 0.02%, subject to contract-specific rates.
  • Taker fees: The standard schedule lists 0.06%, with actual TradFi rates requiring verification.
  • Funding costs: Payments can accumulate while positions remain open, making these products less suitable for investors who want to buy and forget.

How Useful Are UTA and KCUSD?

The more interesting upgrade is the Unified Trading Account. Eligible traders can manage supported spot and futures positions within a shared margin framework, reducing transfers between accounts.

KuCoin also allows supported KCUSD balances to serve as margin while continuing to earn variable rewards, advertised at up to 4% APR.

FeaturePractical BenefitLimitation
UTAShared margin and fewer account transfersVIP1+ required; shared risk
KCUSDEligible margin can continue earning rewardsVariable rewards; collateral remains at risk

The catch is access. UTA and this KCUSD integration require VIP1 status or higher. One qualification route is holding at least 1,000 KCS; another is $1 million in 30-day spot volume.

KCUSD rewards are not guaranteed, collateral values may be discounted, and losses in a shared-margin account can affect other positions.

Final Verdict: Who Is KuCoin TradFi For?

KuCoin TradFi makes sense for active crypto traders who already understand perpetual futures and want to follow stock-market or commodity themes without juggling platforms.

Its breadth and continuous trading hours are useful, while UTA could improve capital management for qualifying high-volume users.

Our review findings:

What Works WellWhat Could Be Better
Broad range of traditional-market exposureNo direct ownership of underlying assets
24/7 access through familiar futures toolsWeekend liquidity and pricing uncertainty
Flexible long and short positionsLeverage and recurring funding costs
Shared margin and eligible KCUSD rewardsAdvanced account features restricted to VIP users

Availability also varies by jurisdiction.

KuCoin 5.0 connects these products with broader account services and AI-assisted information tools.

For now, TradFi’s real test is whether traders can consistently enter and exit the contracts they want at reasonable prices. That requires live execution testing; published specifications alone cannot establish it.
