Bitcoin is consolidating near $82,000 to $83,000 after retreating from recent highs above $87,000. A new CryptoQuant analysis warns that the S&P 500 is showing similar weakness.

Analysts are split on whether a deeper correction is coming. Here is what the data suggests.

Why Bitcoin and the S&P 500 Are Moving Together

The CryptoQuant analysis by nocoffeenobrain notes concurrent weakness in Bitcoin and the S&P 500. That setup has previously preceded deeper crypto declines.

U.S. 10-year Treasury yields are pushing toward multi-year highs while momentum fades in both markets. Historical parallels include late 2018 and January to April 2025.

In late 2018, yields rolled over from their peaks, equities came under pressure, and Bitcoin’s sell-off intensified into year-end. In 2025, yields retreated from January highs before April turmoil hit both equities and Bitcoin.

The S&P 500 has yet to experience a proper correction this cycle. If equities take a bigger hit as yields rise, Bitcoin could be dragged lower. The catalysts may differ from past episodes, though.

That risk is why the CryptoQuant warning matters. Weakness now appears across risk assets rather than in a single market. Traders will also watch yields closely in the coming sessions.

Is the Market Heading for a Deeper Correction?

Fidelity’s Jurrien Timmer notes that the market broadened last week. However, it did so in a down market as the AI theme was sold. Only about 55% of stocks sit above their 200-day moving average. Breadth has improved but remains tepid, according to his analysis.

Last week the market broadened again, but it did so in a down-market as the AI theme got sold off. Breadth has improved but remains tepid at 55% (of stocks above their 200-day MA). The cap-weighted S&P 500 has largely gone nowhere since early June. It is trapped between rising capital costs and an ongoing earnings boom. Investors will watch whether breadth improves in the coming weeks. A broader rally would weaken the case for a correction.

Not everyone shares the caution. Michaël van de Poppe sees Bitcoin consolidating with no decisive move yet. He advises patience until price breaks clearly out of its range.

KillaXBT argues the next bear cycle may never trade below $100,000, while Crypto Rover points to an imminent golden cross. Both views rely on technical or cycle-based arguments rather than macro data.

The divergence leaves the outlook open. Bitcoin’s path may hinge on whether equities deliver the deeper correction that has so far remained absent.
