Jeff Bezos Invests in $2.6 Billion AI Startup Working With Nvidia and Meta

Jeff Bezos Nvidia ties have gotten a lot stronger this week, and it is worth breaking down what actually happened. Bezos Expeditions backed CuspAI, a startup out of Cambridge that just hit a $2.6 billion valuation, and Nvidia and Meta also signed on as partners to help fix a materials shortage that has been slowing chip production down for a while now.

CuspAI: The Jeff Bezos AI Startup Behind The Deal

CuspAI closed a $450 million Series B round on July 20. Kleiner Perkins and NEA led the round, and Bezos Expeditions took part too, alongside AMD Ventures and the UK government’s Sovereign AI Venture Fund. The round pushed the CuspAI AI startup to a $2.6 billion valuation, roughly a fivefold jump from about $520 million last September, and that kind of jump is not something you see every day. This Jeff Bezos AI startup started out in Cambridge back in 2024, and it uses a platform it calls MIRA to test candidate materials that would normally take a lab years to work through by hand. At the time of writing, the Jeff Bezos Nvidia story is still developing.

Nvidia And Meta Partnership Explained

The Jeff Bezos Nvidia story does not stop at funding. CuspAI also launched the AI Materials Foundry, a coalition of more than 45 partners that includes Nvidia, Meta, Samsung, and Hyundai Motor Group. This Nvidia and Meta partnership aims to pool computing power and lab data, so teams can test and verify new materials faster than any single company could manage on its own.

Chad Edwards, CuspAI’s co-founder and CEO, said chipmakers are:

“frantically searching for new materials.”

The shortage behind this Jeff Bezos Nvidia deal, the one pushing AI chip materials to the front of the conversation, is not memory chips or electricity, the two bottlenecks that usually make headlines. It comes down to raw materials, plain and simple. The International Energy Agency has projected that data center demand for gallium could run about 10% ahead of supply by 2030, and China currently controls something like 99% of refined gallium worldwide. Other elements that chipmakers rely on, such as iridium, ruthenium, and tantalum, are also getting harder and pricier to source, and that is exactly why AI chip materials have turned into such a big focus for CuspAI this year.

Josh Coyne, a partner at Kleiner Perkins, said:

“CuspAI built a search engine that changes that.”

Is CuspAI An Investment Option Right Now

CuspAI remains a private company right now, and there is no indication of an IPO on the horizon just yet. Retail investors cannot buy into this CuspAI AI startup directly, at least not for now. Investors can track the public companies connected to this story instead, since Nvidia and Meta both stand to gain if this Jeff Bezos AI startup delivers usable materials at scale. Bezos has made a similar bet before too, backing a manufacturing focused startup, Prometheus, back in November, and that points to a pattern of funding the less visible parts of the AI supply chain.

For now, the Nvidia and Meta partnership and the wider Jeff Bezos Nvidia story are worth tracking rather than trading, since the CuspAI AI startup’s progress on AI chip materials will likely show up first in how fast Nvidia and other chipmakers manage to scale new materials into their own production lines. And that is really the whole Jeff Bezos Nvidia takeaway here, at least for right now: watch the materials, not the stock ticker. Also, keep an eye on whether the Foundry adds more names, because right now, that list has only been growing.
