Caregiver Allegedly Drains $180,000 From 92-Year-Old Florida Woman’s Bank Accounts

An in-home caregiver has been arrested on multiple felony counts after allegedly siphoning more than $180,000 from a nearly 92-year-old client with significant vision impairment.

Maryjean “Mary” Victoria Small, 26, worked through Concierge Care as an independent contractor for the victim in St. Johns County from early 2025 until mid-2026, reports News4JAX.

She now faces seven felony charges that include theft of $50,000 or more from a person 65 or older, defrauding a person 65 or older of $50,000 or more, illegal use of credit cards, exploitation of an elderly person exceeding $50,000, use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, uttering a false check or bank instrument, and fraudulent use of identification without consent with a victim 60 or older.

Authorities accuse Small of depositing 63 unauthorized checks worth more than $82,000 into her own account and moving another $70,000 from the victim’s savings. Small allegedly prepared checks for signature while claiming they covered bills and kept others from questioning the finances.

She also allegedly used the client’s debit and credit cards for personal expenses such as children’s clothing and food deliveries.

The victim authorized only grocery purchases and told investigators she never used a computer due to her vision impairment.

Records indicate the total unauthorized transfers and purchases reached approximately $180,321.

Small was taken into custody on August 17th and booked into the St. Johns County jail under a $340,000 bond with orders barring contact with the victim.
