The market saw a massive surge after President Trump’s cryptocurrency event in the White house. Trump invited several CEOs and founders to promote his administration’s pro-crypto agenda. Trump also aimed to push Congress to pass the stalled Clarity Act, while positioning the United States as a global leader in digital asset innovation.

During the event, President Trump stated that the US is considering purchasing a large amount of Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies. The statement led to a surge in investor confidence and prices took off. About $1.2 billion worth of short positions were liquidated within 24 hours following the price rally.

While many were ecstatic about the market rebound, it seems the rally is being cut short. Inflation has dipped in July 2026, but the figure remains well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. If costs continue to remain high, the Federal Reserve may decide to hike interest rates. Such a move could lead to further exodus of investors from the cryptocurrency market.

The cryptocurrency market has struggled for most of 2026. While the recent rally was commendable, it hinges on President Trump’s word about the US potentially buying a larger amount of cryptocurrencies. If the plan does not follow through, we may see a dip in investor sentiment. Some have even predicted Bitcoin (BTC) to fall to the $40,000 mark by the end of this year before making an upward push.
